I have decided to apply to transfer to Virginia Commonwealth University for a number of reasons. While I value my time enrolled at UMBC, I feel that VCU is now a much better choice for me to continue my education. I entered UMBC looking to major in computer science. However, in the year and a half since, my interests have shifted and my family moved, increasing monetary issues. Eventually, I began to consider other options.
Biology, with its ties to complexity and emergence, is now a much more interesting and relevant field to me. I also once ignored the idea of incorporating my artistic side into my life path as impractical, but I now consider it a possiblity. Advertising and graphic design have always interested me, and VCU will give me the opportunity to investigate these fields. Downtown Richmond would also provide an interesting and lively urban environment, which I find appealing and very different from my suburban upbringing. My mother is an alumnae of Virginia Commonwealth Univerisity and provided a large part of the motivation to initially apply and to re-apply to VCU. VCU is a very strong school in all my areas of interest, and I know it will be the best place to continue my education.
