poetry

the axis tilts

the axis tilts,

and with burning claws

the landscape rends its hues from the evening sky, embers cold and scattered below the streetlights.

we the soaring numbered dead,

who step lightly into shining clouds

and decompose nameless in heaps;

my aunts

bronwyn, who died on christmas

jennifer, taken atop Kilimanjaro on new year’s day

and myself

shot in the head july forth.

left to regain the ability to walk, to talk, to read, to eat solid food.

put up two fingers if you can hear me, jay

one hundred days in the hospital

a unique identifying poster atop each room's entrance, facing out.

we are the captains of otherwise empty ships

straining against fickle and unfeeling currents,

whose indiscernible patterns we cannot help but blindly trace;

we are as leaves in the cold winter air

marionetted on the last gasps of uncountable billions

and the wings of every butterfly that has ever lived.

so we will consecrate this instant;

we will raise our glasses in a toast to aunt denise's 80th birthday

and celebrate in the unfaltering onslaught of days our existence;

we will carve our names in the heaving oak

letters writ large in the rended husks of million of cells

their tiny souls whipping up towards heaven on the breeze;

and with the bones of those who came before us

we will trace in the dust

the design of our whirring clockwork.

An enjoyable and memorable 4th and surrounding days
So cheek and erik came down for the fourth, which was a lot of fun despite no robots being built.  We got the very last spot in the handicapped parking area, which was being blocked off by a traffic thingy for no reason we could discern so we moved it and parked there.  Didn't get a ticket either.  The fire works were cool and early as it was threatening to rain so they camr on the loudspeaker saying they would test a shot and if all goes well, go early.  Well all went well so they went ahead and did the fireworks.  Erik and cheek and ben and shawn got woodcuts and I got the generous gift of two games from cheek and erik.   Shawn and ben didn't arrive en motorcycle, luckily for shawn.  We decided not to purchase half price fireworks and instead played a few games of adversity which we all found entertaining.  We bring me shawn and ben.  I was unfortunately prevented from going out on the roof with my guests by the last thing before bed prefo wearing.  All in all it was really great seeing my friends and celebrating the 4th, even though we didn't make any fireworks robots.

clean comedy
well fairly recently i went with my dad to a clean comedy night which was actually much to my surprise quite amusing and not glaringly lacking in cursing. then again most comics i know don't curse all that much anyway. the kimball was the same venue to host the crystal concert and a beatles tribute band. can't remember any jokes from the show but i can assure you of their quality.  bocce has moved over to the right hand, vs. a lob on the part of my dad and he's been winning fairly consistently.  friends are due to visit soon so it'll be nice to get a chance to catch up in person.

Recent events
I've recently been keeping myself productively entertained with this program called MyBrainTrainer and also with this little multi game handheld, which could be argued as therapy because it requires dextrous use of the right hand.  It looks like just Erik will be coming by for a visit but its still gonna be great seeing what he's been up to.  After much searching I did find my midi cable, but have yet to figure out how to hook up my keyboard so as to make use of the generous gift of the "Play Piano" program from my neighbors.  I also learned that one of our indoor vine plants is 6 years old, a gift to my Mom at her old workplace.  I had no idea it was so ancient.  Also encountered the neighbors new dog, a Shitzpoo.  Whoever bred that dog must have gotten a laugh.

Well today marks a fairly significant time for me, as I have at long last moved to my bed upstairs.  Hooray.

hey everyone
Don't know who might be still reading this, but figured I might give a little update as to recent events.  Unfortunately, I seem to have been a bit remiss in posting of late, for which I apologize.  This capitalization and full sentence thing is also strange and new.  Anyway I got shot in the head and have spent the time since my last update re-learning to walk, speak, and read.  I also appear to have picked up the nasty habit of punctuation from my injury.  Possibly it's from typing left handed, another unfortunate side effect of my injury.  Well, I have no idea who still reads this, but if you're someone I know don't be afraid to drop me a line.  Anyway, to all my friends, thanks for all your support, I miss you guys, and hope we have the chance to meet up soon.

clay pigeons in the hopper
i've been putting off another bout of resume-flinging all morning
doing some super 8 research
inspired by last night's project resolution
and a little logo design on the side
the weekend was spent mostly at my folks' in glou
sadly the dirt track racing was rained out, so we decided to give a mystery dinner theatre a try
which was middling at best
my poor dad - no racing, slacker son, and crappy bday/father's day
and it turns out that he doesn't even really like utne, my choice of birthday present
saturday was nice though
we all piled into his coworkers boat and motored around the river for a bit
i completely forgot about the 804 noise get-together though
but mike hit them up and snagged another show w/out me, figuring i wasn't interested
big guh
anyway, back to work/miserable procrastination

murderous heat, rising panic, indolence and indigence
the end of the month looms, with no ready source of funds in sight save for my savings
though they are ample, i am loathe to dip into them

and nick has found a place for next semester and while i want to live with him
he needs the deposit and 1st months rent now
which would just about clean me out

and i just blew a buck eighty on securing the domain doublepl.us and 2 years of hosting
i've got a splash page worked out, as well as some new ad club logo ideas
but today was a total waste
woke up at 12, sat around on the computer all day
guh
give me a job you bastards!

flip flops are awesome
i may have mentioned this before
but when summer comes around its as if i discover the joys of lessened sock use anew
anyway, this weekend was very nice,
despite late notice and conflict with fathers day the following day, tom, repper, martin and vicki made the trip to richmond to check out the new apartment and catch up
everyone was in good spirits and conversation frequently took whirling turns to the abstract
including some very good defense of the 2nd law of thermodynamics in the face of my skepticism

so the law states that isolated systems tend to increase in entropy (disorder) and head towards an equilibrium state with lots of it that they come to rest at
however, many systems don't head towards an equilibrium state, aren't isolated, and in fact produce persistent localized disippations of entropy (also known as order, with order often springing forth from chaos, a phenomenon aptly called emergence)
however, it was pointed out that its really just a way to solve certain problems, as opposed to a far-reaching model for the universe
and at some point a thoroughly impromptu and brief jam session ensued and was imposed for a spell upon the unfortunate souls who didn't grab an instrument
also some wursts were served

it was nice to see everyone doing so well
tom's got a job producing a surveillance-camera-footage-generator for half life
repper is continuing to rake in dough and seems to revel in his actualization
he says that the japanese have no regard for the patent as art
i think he should retranslate sections through babelfish for his own amusement
vicki has been hanging out with and studying parkinsons patients for her job
it seems at once fascinating and difficult, but i'm sure she can take it
unfortunately i somehow neglected to find out what martin is doing, but i'm sure its very awesome

my dad and i agreed to rain check father's day for this saturday, and go see some dirt track racing,
sunday was spent largely in front of the tv watching movies, strangely enough

it seems jobs provide the bulk of what's new with everyone
unfortunately news from that front is grimly absent for me
on that note i'm going to go through the classifieds again and hit up craigslist
and i could always work some more on my portfolio
